interior exhaust smell

i have bad interior exhaust smell in my 66 fastback. I thought it was my old exhaust system so I got a brand new system with hooker supercomp long tubes and 2 1/2 to the rear valance. I don't know how this smell is getting into the car. could it be the cowl I know I got a leak because when I wash my car water drips down my pedals. I'm so frustrated with this car evey time I drive for more than 20 minutes I get a headache.
