Cutting Hurst shifter

Did a T-5 trans swap in 66 coupe. Put in Pro 5 shifter and picked up new bolt in Hurst shift handle, way to long I Need to cut about 2" off and re drill mounting holes. My question is.Is the Hurst handle harden? And can it be cut and drilled. don't want to take a file to it to see if its hardened, Might have to send it back.
