Mumm-Ra is the source of evil, Thundercat functions under the paradigm of dualism so Mumm-Ra is necesary so that there can be good. However there is a polar opposite of Mumm-Ra, The Ying to his Yang, it is a female called Mumm-Rana...maybe if he somehow got her energy chanelled into him...he would become good...and maybe Mum-Rana would become bad.
