I wanted to x-country ski Sunday 2/3 (yes, during superbowl!) but had heard the CHP was turning away cars at the I-5. Also, where is the "Y". I heard Mt. Pinos was closed at the "Y".  Post a Response

Pinos highway open?" 69.33.39.X don't know how far the road is open, but the "Y" is the intersection of mt.pinos rd and mil potrero hwy, about 12 miles from I-5. if you take a right at the Y, you'll go to pine mountain club, and a left will take you to the top parking lot on mt.pinos in about 8 miles of twisty roads.  Post a Response

Pinos road to the 2nd snow gate at McGill campground. So you could go snowshoeing from there as long as you keep tabs on your location. There are some trails and perhaps even an old FS road from McGill, but I've only passed through a couple times in the snow and I could imagine someone getting turned around - especially if visibility drops. Forecast was more rain/snow on Saturday night which could affect access on Mt. Pinos road. Call the Mt. Pinos Ranger District at Chuchupate (Lockwood Valley) and ask them for an update during the day.  Post a Response
