Good question. If there is a record of ava-prone locations, we are unaware of it. I wonder if the Mt. Pinos wikipedia site would be a good place to create a listing, or if it should be in a moderated form so as to prevent tinkering with published digits. Anyone with opinions?
Some compasses have an inclinometer built in, in which case you can eyeball slopes looking for 37 degrees from horizontal or thereabouts. Of course weather, aspect and snowpack also play a role. I suggest Bruce Tremper's book if you don't already have it. Only about $10 at places like REI...
