Hi Paul. I'm unaware of xc ski clubs but I've only been patrolling at Pinos since 2001. I know for sure that the Sierra Club has an active nordic ski chapter in SoCal, and given your location you might even look towards the Sierra Club farther north.
Occasionally the OutdoorsClub(.org) has an xc ski trip but not too often. Snowshoeing seems more popular in SoCal, perhaps since folks here don't grow up on skis...
