On Sunday the Mt. Pinos Nordic Ski Patrol cleared approximately 100 tree branches from the Northridge/Jeffrey Pines trails. Many of those branches appeared to be methodically cut and placed across the trail in what must have been an attempt to hinder access to other users.
The ski patrol is a volunteer public safety service and we are concerned about winter safety. Such obstacles can result in serious or life threatening injuries to skiers who are surprised and unable to take evasive maneuvers quickly enough to avoid the branches, many of which are at or above ankle height and which might be hidden from sight in soft snow.
We are unaware of the exact motives of the person(s) who performed this act. We do not approve of people taking matters into their own hands and limiting others from using signed multi-purpose trails.
I hope you can help get the word out to the responsible person(s) and educate them about the grave safety situation they caused and perhaps convince them to stop.
I shudder to think of the effort necessary to evacuate an injured skier from the Northridge trail if they had a compound fracture, neck/back injury or concussion. And I doubt anyone would want to be the cause of such a circumstance.

MtPinos Message Board Advisory: When planning a visit to Mt. Pinos, always check with a reliable weather forecast, as well as the Los Padres Ranger District, for the latest conditions and recommendations. These are good places to start:
