I concur with your description of snow conditions on Mount Pinos. I walked to the summit and looked around a bit. In no place is the depth over 3 inches. This is in a belt a half mile to mile above the parking lot. The meadow and summit area is very patchy and not skiiable. Bare spots, rocks and bush erupt out the snow as a matter of course. Skiing anywhere on Pinos right now would wreck your equipment.
I did see some snow boarders but not in action. Plenty of hikers and mountain bikers. Also plenty of families using what ever to slide down the hill at the parking lot.
Snow coverage did not markedly increase as I went up the mountain. Mid day temperatures in the mid 40's have dried out the pavement on the road and is accelerating melting everywhere. We will need more snow this week or the mountain will be bare in a weeks time.
