Posted by jdb On Saturday night we got about 6" of fresh dry snow on Mt. Pinos. We successfully skied to Condor Point, although there were a few thin spots so the going was sometimes slow. Travel is easiest on the main path to the summit, since adjacent meadows and woods don't have enough snow to cover the shrubs and downed limbs. The snow gates were open on Sunday, however it appeared that the county signed Mt. Pinos Road as closed. There is some delay in snow plow services on Pinos and so immediately after a storm access to the top can be delayed. We've already had one vehicle over the side of the road just uphill of the 2nd snow gate. They hit black ice at about 8 a.m. a week ago and their SUV spun off the road and down a drainage. So be very cautious and don't hurry! The NOAA forecast calls for cool temps during the week and a chance of precipitation next Saturday. It appears that we may finally have a good base of snow by then...
