Posted by jdb The section of the Harvest Trail from Nordic Base (the parking lot) down to the first crossing of the road is very rutted. I suspect those with dual suspension rigs are looking for this type of riding. Those riding rigid MTBs, like me, or those with less interest in technical challenge, might not enjoy it so much. Anyway, the rest of the McGill trail all the way down to the Y is in GREAT shape. One of the better descents in SoCal, IMHO. Definitely better than the descent of the Mt. High ridgeline that got such a good writeup in the SoCal MTB book...

Me and Double-A were up at Pinos a few weeks ago - riding our MTBs on the doubletrack and mapping some routes on GPS. Once again I was reminded of how limited GPS is in its accuracy. Nearby ridgelines, extensive tree cover, and GPS mounting position all hinder its view of the sky.

MtPinos Message Board Advisory: When planning a visit to Mt. Pinos, always check with a reliable weather forecast, as well as the Los Padres Ranger District, for the latest conditions and recommendations. These are good places to start:
