Posted by jdb It should be noted that the ski patrol is a volunteer group. The facility, Nordic Base, is only manned on weekends during the snowy season. There are no phones or running water, and the weather station runs off batteries and solar power. There are no automated weather reports. Also, patrollers drive from San Diego, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties to spend their weekends at Pinos. When you comment on the "locals", please keep in mind that folks who live near the mountain may or may not be aware of this message board. And so this forum will grow organically and we will see in the long run how many folks we can get involved through word of mouth. The ski patrol is not paying for this message board - I am paying out of pocket in the hopes of promoting the local scene. I appreciate your involvement and patience, and hope you stay tuned... Think snow.

Thanks so much for writing in with your concerns, and suggestions, for this message board! This forum was created by an individual (me), who wants to promote nordic/backcountry skiing in Southern California. While I am glad to post ski patrol comments on snow conditions, there may be times that I miss an opportunity. Hopefully others who visit the mountain will find time to contribute.

MtPinos Message Board Advisory: When planning a visit to Mt. Pinos, always check with a reliable weather forecast, as well as the Los Padres Ranger District, for the latest conditions and recommendations. These are good places to start:
