Says they were bred to protect wealthy landowners' estates from poachers. In other words, its a Bullmastiff?? Or if its a more recent cross, a Bandogge??  Post a Response

Any further inquiries from you or anyone else on this site would be welcome if they are done PROPERLY. We answer our email regularly and will talk with people over the phone. You however, "Karen", are the reason people to breed dogs and put themselves out in front of the world. Then every backwards ignoramus from the four corners of the earth can step out of the woodwork to give voice to their worthless opinion. We get calls from all over the U.S. for puppies and potential breeding matches, as well as INTERNATIONAL calls for our puppies. This is why I am asking - unless there is another Imperial... Which is highly possible as there are common kennel names in many breeds. So when I looked up Imperial Mastiffs - I did find quite a few ads on puppy for sale websites. I found two URLs - one was down and the other was only for a single page with no information and no other was to find other pages on the site. There was no contact info or anything. The orig poster is looking for information on them and neither of us who responded were abe to find anything that did not look odd. I am not flaming you, just trying to get vital information for someone who has asked about it. All I am asking you is for information regarding your breeding program that is not visible on any of the pages I personally have found...  Post a Response

For example - there are Imperial Kennels in in six different breeds at least when I checked the name Imperial in the OFA database. (Poodles, Shelties, Dals, Chows, Irish Wolfhounds - though I did not see any of the mastiff family listed in the database when I searched with a general Imperial). Therefore, you are either doing hips but not submitting to the OFA for reading, or you are PennHip or you are not doing anything OR none of your dogs have Imperial in the name. Now, I went to Infodog - the MB-F site - one of the largest show super sites in the US. I went to past shows and did a sampling of shows in Ohio, checked Mastiffs for dogs with Imperial in the name and found none out of the sampling I did. This means you either do not show AKC or the shows you go to are through a different superintenant like Rau or Onoforio or you do not compete at all with your dog. I saw pretty much the same kennel names over and over - no Imperial. I checked OH shows between: Nov 17, 2007 - Dec 16, 2007 Dec 28, 2007 - Jan 26, 2008 Jan 16, 2008 - Feb 14, 2008 Feb 15, 2008 - Mar 15, 2008 Mar 16, 2008 - Apr 14, 2008 Anyone here can tell you I know how to research pedigrees and such. But by attacking back when asked an honest question, it does not make your breeding program look good. Instead, you could have come on and stated something like: I am not sure if I am the Imperial Mastiffs the OP is asking about but I do have a kennel by that name. I breed XYZ and do ABC with my dogs. Since people are having trouble finding more information on my site, here are the relevant pages with titles and all the heath testing I am doing. Now, I did check your pedigrees - I was able to get the pages up the second time but I saw no mention on any health testing or showing you are doing in your dogs and very few titles in the backs of your dogs. I personally like to see more titles in the first three generations. One of your dogs (Keara) has no titles at all on the three generation pedigree you have posted as well as mention of any health testing, competitions, etc. Suzie's pedigree is a bit better but did you breed her or buy her? And again, no mention of any health testing or anything on her. Your Bulldog - same thing - but you have no pedigree that I could see on line and no mention of health testing. And from the dates on the picture, she will barely be a year old this summer and you are talking about breeding her. Puppy pic that looks maybe 4 - 5 months old in Aug '07 and you mention breeding her summer of '08. You have a chance to explain your breeding practices as there is nothing on your site other than a few pics and a couple pedigrees. No other information that anyone seriously looking for dogs is taught to look for.  Post a Response

Step out of the box and look at what you have posted on line and where... What you may not want to look like is what has come off at least one on line ad - this is what people have to go by when looking first at breeders by using the internet. Now, I WANT you to prove me wrong. But your website and the ads just do not give that impression and first impressions with websites is what people go by. When I look at a website of a breed and I come from a breeding and exhibiting/performance family and I am returning to showing with two younger dogs - one just turned six months and the other has been shown already but is still maturing, I also have a background in genetics, related to a vet, etc... anyhow, this is what I look for: Someone who has quality dogs and is trying to prove it through various shows, events, etc. Even if I am looking for a pet, I want someone who is still trying to produce dogs who are not going to further mire a breed in mediocrity. I want someone who is also testing for various health issues and screeing for them. Why? I want to know someone is trying to do all they can to help prevent something from being passed on to a dog I purchase. However, your website does not show anything but pretty dogs being bred. I found no records of your dogs on OFA - do you PennHip? I found nothing in conformation shows that I checked. I have not researched your dogs for working titles or performance events (Mastiffs tend not to excell in these but there is one doing Sch work I know of!) I will respond to some of your comments just because you have started this on a message board and I how you are making my kennel look to the whole world. I am a small breeder. I have only bred 3 litters in 4 years. Out of those litters 2 pups were sold to breeding homes and only one has been in the show ring....and yes she has many points to her name. I personally could care less about "titles" in my pedigrees. I search pedigrees to find sound, typey mastiffs that represent the true English standards. I do not show. I am a wife and mom of 3 active kids, work 2 jobs, and the dogs are just my enjoyment. I do not have the time or energy to put into the show ring. I don't need someone to tell me my dogs are nice looking I am able to determine that on my own. I am also very capable of determining the faults I want to improve on in my dogs. Plus, I do not want to deal with all the politics that the ring involves. The testing I do I use as a tool for my future breedings, and no I don't advertise it for the world. When a potential buyer or stud owner asks I let them know. People who "are seriously taught" things when looking for a dog know to ask the breeder not post on a message board without all the information.  Post a Response

I have two active kids, one is sick today and does not have school... I have four dogs, run my own business, run a dog safety program, husband travels a lot for work, etc. There are always ways to get a dog out and shown or competed with. I am looking at hiring a handler, no idea how I will pay for it but I will if he matures well. I am showing him UKC myself since they do not allow handlers. Yes you want people to email you... But the question was raised here and you are getting a chance to answer. Many of us here are very busy, more than I am - dang I have not even scratched the surface - today is an odd able to be online a lot day for me... generally I am getting up at 6am to get online to have fun for a bit... But many people here still manage to get our dogs out as well as do testing. Some tests are DNA and simple cheek swabs. I have done MDR1 on my dogs (BTW - this gene is showing up in the mastiff breeds and is not good). I will do eyes next clinic I can get to. Since I do not plan on breeding either for a bit, I have time there. I will do vWD next clinic my club hosts. I will do my oldest first. Though I have to check records, I think they are clear by parentage but I want it in writing from VetGen. Hips, I cannot get scores for a year for my older pup and a year and a half for the younger one. What are you doing with your dogs? Even if you are NOT showing, and a friend of mine got a lovely GSD from a woman who is not showing but still has done all the screenings a GSD should have done prior to breeding, are you at least testing your dog's health? That is even more important to me than if a dog is being shown.  Post a Response

We do have a standard here. So I will give him a ring in norway so he can eligthen me before i make a boo boo. Point is maybe your work - show or health test and your wins and titles, certifications are on another site.? And maybe you have been around so long that you do Need to allow the newbies to your breed to see what you have done to quailify your breedings or the pups you have for sale. Thats all well and good but Karen nor I have made up the rules of board convo concerning a new person to a old board . PS I show work test all my dogs and I had 2 litters last year and one this year and I am so far into the red im sick "i dont make money off of dogs" IMO. PS I tried to FIND your url under Imperial mastiff and your not well indexed and the name has been used by other kennels under OFA. So pls dont bite the messenger when the message was not clear to anyone including me. Your site lack any info about why you bred these dogs.. and noted some of the top people now do NOt have websites they dont need to their pups are sold before they are born thru world of mouth.  Post a Response

Posted by Pops on April 15, 2008, 8:40 pm, in reply to "Speaking of OFA....." 208.79.15.3 they should be OFA'd. when i fractured my ankle the duty doc called it a sprain but sent the x-rays to the radiologist for reading. so i am out doing predeployment training w/ my kids and i get a call from the office saying i need to head to the hospital. i get there and they tell me it's fractured and showed me the x-ray (it was obvious). just like you wouldn't want a general practitioner operating on your heart. a general vet just normally isn't knowledgeable enough to equal the experience of OFA personnel.  Post a Response

Penn Hip requires the vet to be certified in HIPS separate and above normal vet school xray 101. It requires a PI be it what ever chip or tattoo thus you have less FRAUDS than OFA has.. Then rate each hip . So yes a dr xraying means NOTHING without the certification. I am now going to double up the OFA view when I do the PH and get both . Cost 50 more and double the price of OFA.. Similar to the UK Sheltie std and AKC std have a few differences but I can still take my AKC Shelties to the UK and show at Crufts or other shows in the British Isles even with subtle differences in the standards... The sum total of your actions leads us to believe you have some sort of agenda against us for whatever reason... most likely that you and your fellow insta-pundits feel you are the guardians of dogs via the internet. I still don't recall seeing a kennel name from you... just that you "have dogs." It's great that you have dogs and love them. I applaud you for that. However, you have been quite duplicitous during all these postings, at one point defending us as a kennel name and in the following(perhaps it was previous) post saying that we are just trying to make money. Anyone who's bred on this small a scale knows there's not much money being made, if any at all. The real surprise to me is that people are actually hopping on board with you rather than seeing what is so plainly going on. The one gentleman particularly tickled me by trying to use phenotype, particularly since it seemed to be to try and confuse. He is also welcome to email us, as you are. Our apologies that our site doesn't meet your exacting standards. I am not bashing I am asking a simple question Posted by Karen on April 16, 2008, 11:33 am, in reply to "Re: What testing are you doing? nm" 76.21.226.117 Do a little research yourself... http://www.infodog.com/panels/LST-30.HTM When the results are up, check out the Sat and Sunday show in Warwick, RI (currently only teh catalog is still posted) and check out under Shetland Sheepdogs thu 6 - 9 months puppy dog who went on to BOB and a Group 2 and the Open Sable and White dog who went on to BOB and a Group 3. Pup was cobred by my mother and sister and the open dog is owned by my mother. Dogs are tested for hips, eyes (annually), vWD (DNA screened), I go the next step and do MDR1 (DNA) and we compete. This past weekend my mother took a Group 2 and a Group 3 with her dogs - different days. My sister has a dog (semiretired) who has been the top UKC Sheltie several times, he is also performance titled. He is also AKC Ch and UKC Gr CH and a total dog winner. I took a hiatus due to my kids, husband's schedule, etc and am returning to showing. I have a 12 - 18 month old puppy dog and a 6 - 9 months puppy b###h. I am starting them UKC. My b###h has to go UKC as she is more than 50% white. My male is nice, superb movement, great angles, nice head, though on the smaller size of the standard - so many AKC judges may not look at him. I am waiting to do AKC until next year - another year to mature and fill out a bit more. It could be 3 - 4 years before he is mature. His sire is the top UKC Sheltie, Can Ch, AKC pointed with majors. My female is littermate to the 6-9 month pup mentioned above. She also seems to have the temperament to transition into my dog bite prevention program in a year or two. I am not seeing anything on your site about what you are doing with your dogs. You are getting defensive because a question any serious breeder would willingly answer yet not stating what health testing you are doing on your dogs. Any good breeder would welcome questions regarding their dogs and willingly give answers. Now, want to know why I am able to be online so much... I get up an hour before my kids to and often go to bed later than them. It is amazing what can be done then... This week I am at home with my preschooler who has to undergo three days of colon cleansing because she has an intestinal issue that may take up to six months to resolve - maybe more. I just spent the past 6 weeks trying to find the best dose of meds for her and she backed up again. The gastroenterologist said 3 - 5 pills a day, well we tried three last week and it was not enough. Ever had a colonoscopy or any other intestinal check and have to go through the clean out prior to? Now think about doing this for three days. I have done it for one clean out day and it sucks. Be four years old and doing this for a second time and the clean out has to be done for 3 days to fully evacuate any materials. She has been out of school due to it and spending a lot of time curled up on the couch cramped up... She has one more day of treatment and this is on top of several days waiting for her appt with her leaking poop around the new blockage and having to come home from preschool (when I was supposed to be doing a behavioral eval) after less than half an hour because she was in such pain. So we are home, not going out expect to take big brother to and from school. Therefore, no clients this week, no shopping, no classes... I am home changing pull ups up to every five minutes as she cannot make it to the bathroom fast enough and just wants to curl up in a corner and cry and be left alone. No, she does not want anyone with her while she poops and cries and that is killing me. I am not scheduing classes for a few weeks as there is a glut of dog trainers regionally (numbers have more than triples in the past five years and I mentor so I know how many are coming up as well) now and since this is an "extra money" deal, (one of the first things to be cut when finances get bad is recreational stuff), my business is suffering as are many other regional trainers. So I am taking extra time to get the word out of upcoming classes. Luckily where I teach, I can make my own schedule to some degree. Now, back in Sept, two weeks after I came home from MI with a new puppy who I spent a long time researching before driving 12 hours for him, my husband fell 15 feet. Multiple limb fractures, surgeries and may have to have another later this summer though the Ortho now thinks it can be pushed to next year. Good because my husband travels a lot for work (sometimes every month). Bad because he uses his hands for a lot of micromanipulation when working with cells. Therefore I had two months of him home and four weeks in a wheelchair and I was swamped with clients at that point (all the summer bought pups needed work). He just finished OT last week as he was not progressing more and the Ortho said he can do the exercises at home and he is to start massage therapy to help break up scar tissue in his wrist. Chances are he will bever fully recover though he has to the point where he is back at work, back travelling. I also have a son who is Autism Spectrum - thank goodness high functioning. But I am in his class once a week now volunteering with his teacher and able to keep tabs on what he was doing. When he was younger, I was told he would never live independantly nor talk, etc. I stayed home to make sure I was supplementing all therapies and such outlined by specialists. Never regretted it but the first few years were tough and I was going in and out of DC for evals and testing at Georgetown University around the same time my daughter was born. Luckily I can work my business around the kids. My son is handling in his first dog show this Saturday! But I had to put a lot of my life on hold for years and am getting back into it limitedly until my kids are older. I am also a writer - I write for several print magazines (Two Sheltie and most recently, a Cane Corso mag that is brand new! - SACCI Journal I think is what they decided to call it) as well as am Pet Editor for a woman's magazine - on line - so I am on the computer a lot due to my writing.... Sometimes I take breaks and go to boards. Your Life Magazine - online BTW... Sheltie Pacesetter - regular contributor http://www.sheltie.com/ though I did nto get publised the issue still on line, the new one just came out but due to Nationals this week, the site has not been updated. So I work from my HOUSE - of course I can be on line a but more - and when I am caught up on my work and the kids are not home (three mornings a week I have to myself) and I have nothing to do out of the house, I can play... Oh, I am also webmaster for three dog clubs - one is a national breed club... Well, now my daughter and I are headed to change critter cages before the most recent dose of mag citrate and senna kicks in...  Post a Response

You dont need to be a good breeder to spot a iffy one or be a breeder at all. PS No one is emailing you because no one is interesed in your puppies. But many were past tense interested including this board members of what you vision of the EM was to be. If you dont want to post and carry on a convo then DO NOT POST. The discussion is ended since you only want to shift blame to Karen for god for bID not taking the time to email you about your POST here...... Misery would mean that what she and others said are correct thus causing Misery to you. They did I looked at my lawyer and she said "go ahead" and my machine gun type ok I DID THIS THAT THIS AND THAT AND A LITTLE MORE THIS AND THAT AND ETC. So she asked you answered. Sad thou we have to throw down a resume to ask a simple question... You see i can understand that im a fat middle age "house wife" as perceived by the lawyer. And to boot, there is construction going on next door that is driving Foster insane (same house as snarky dog who is out with guys building). I cannot even leave the, in the yard to play as the dog next door is driving him insane. Though at least they are not leaving the dog out to bark until 1 am or out at 4 am and barking until 6. Time to get my dogs in for a rest soon. Waiting for Sarah to start to cramp again - she is having a better day today. This is just WRONG. LOL! At least I am not hormonal at this point either! Though dear Hubby called to give a laugh - he works in a building that in on the Pope's route. They got to see the Pope and the best thing he said was the gang of older nuns in full blue and white habits chasing the Popemobile like kids at a Hannah Montana or Jonas Bros concert! What a great mental image I have right now. I could just see Sr Mary Joseph from school doing that. Sr Mary Jean no... I am not loking forward to saving for hips. And want to talk my luck - the genetics seminar was reschuduled to July - the same weekend we are out of town. Doug said to see if I can go for the first day and he will pack the car! And the following weekend, when we are coming home, is our eye clinic. Luckily the pups are too young to think of breeding so I have time. Then comes paying for hips! Guess I have to start saving now. No idea how you do it! LOL! But Ravyn has her first UKC show this weekend. She has been to one match. Connor is handling Foster in the classes and is doing OK. It will be interesting to see if I see any of the hyperlexia quirks pop up. Handling classes are funny - he tries so hard but is also very literal! "Show me his bite," went over well. ANYONE that is breeding for the good of any breed would not breed a dog at just a year old. With the amount of problems that are within that breed, WHY would you not want to make sure all testing was done before you breed her. (the people that know it all, but in reality know nothing) I am NOT a backyard breeder. If you knew anything about the standards for breeding a bulldog you'd know that they start breeding after the second heat....which she meets. Besides the fact that she isn't going to be bred at just a year of age. Once again showing you think you know something that you haven't a clue on. Get off the testing no one on this board knows what I do and don't do. I don't flaunt it because it's for my knowledge as I try to better my dogs. If anyone should be concerned it would be the stud owner and she is thrilled to do the breeding.....and she is a VERY well known bulldog show/breeding kennel. All of you are too hung up on showing and testing. Get to know some of the old timers with the experience and you may learn a few things. (not that I am one of those people) I have found some great friends in each breed over the years that have been doing breeding for 20+ years and I'll take their opinions and advice any day before any of you. I'm usually NEVER on message boards because of the likes of all of you....but I can't sit back and watch my dogs and name get torched without some sort of replies. Why don't you all move on to one of the other 100,000+ kennels out there that just do it for pure enjoyment, try their hardest to produce better dogs, but don't advertise everything to your standards.  Post a Response

" 67.77.200.93 IT'S ON YOUR SITE, pictures of your bulldog when you brought her home LAST summer. Then you are going to breed her THIS summer that would make her just OVER a year old, DUH! Do the math!!!! ANY dog CAN be bred at second cycle, DOES NOT mean you should. The REASON you DON'T answer the questions about TESTING is because you DO NONE!! If you did you would make it public knowledge because YOU would want your kennel to be KNOWN for breeding ethically. I could CARELESS about your breed of dog but I do care about people breeding UNethically. I also care about the general public knowing what things to look for BEFORE they purchase that EXPENSIVE puppy. I am sure your puppies run into the $1000, so for someone to spend that kind of money they should know what they are getting themselves into. On the Parent Breed Clubs website under code of ethics it CLEARLY states that dogs shall not be bred prior to 18months UNLESS advice by a VET because of medical reasons. hmmmmmmmm????  Post a Response

Not all people get a pup at 8 weeks therefore it is impossible to "do the math" from a date on a picture. For all who continue to take the time to read this thread I hope someone out there has the brains to not ASSUME they know everything just because a person doesn't publicize something. I can give you a list of unethical mastiff breeders, and also a list of references to my kennel and I'm sure 100% of them will tell you I am the furthest thing from an unethical breeder.  Post a Response

I was doing a breeding with Suzie at that time, and Jazzy was looking for a home. I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her, and she came home with me after our last breeding. She has been a complete joy to have! I prepared myself for this "bull headed" breed, but to my delight she has been easy to train and a pretty good listener! She has grown to be more than I could've hoped for, and I felt she was due her own page. I will be breeding her this summer (2008). So check back often to watch her grow, see who she'll be bred with, and find out when to expect pups from this amazing girl! Unless your Bulldog is immature looking, the first picture is date stamped Aug 27, 2007 and the pup looks to be maybe four or five months old based on the Bulldogs I have worked with close to that age as well as my show experience in the past and watching the Bulldogs. Therefore if she was say six months in the first picture, she would be a year old in Feb, and the earliest you could breed her according to the Bulldog club late summer - but she cannot have full hip scores done until 2 years old and some bulldogs are not mature physically until older - 18 months is still an adolescent. Plus you have no pedigree info on the site not indication as to HEALTH TESTING. Bulldogs have many health issues. Also, is she anything other than a pet? Again, you are not indicating anywhere on your site that you are doing anything with your dogs in regards to health testing alone. Even if you are just breeding for companions animals and not showing and proving your dogs are the same quality or better than their parents and grands, you still owe it to those looking at buying your dogs to ensure you are breeding the healthiest dogs possible - especially with a breed that is a genetic mess to begin with. Here is a list of issues considered hereditary in the Bulldog. Have you ever seen the Canine Inherited Disorder Database or read Padgett? (just a few) elongated soft palate, small trachea, allergies, dermatitis, demodetic mange, eye lid anomalies, hip dysplasia and heart problems, von Willebrand's. vWD is there - has your dog had the DNA test for vWD? If she is to be bred this summer as your site indicates, you should look at that soon as the test can take several weeks for the results to come back. Has your dog had a cardiac check yet by a cardiologist to make sure that there are no signs of cardiac issues? There is nothing on your Bulldog page regarding health testing either. " 67.77.200.93 Do you really think all the people on this board are that dumb. There is a picture of YOUR bulldog dated on YOUR site and quite obvious it is a YOUNG puppy. I think Karen is being generous with assessing that the puppy appears to be 5 to 6 months old. I would say the picture taken in Oct the pup is probably 6months old at best. Which would make that puppy turning 1 year in May. If you have NOTHING to hide then why won't you just answer Karen's questions about testing. From what I got out of your site you DO NOT base your breeding on testing. There is a database for English mastiff's I could not find any of your dogs anywhere(including their parents). BUT it did give vital information about proper testing that SHOULD be done before a dog is bred. Just ONE of those things was a simple DNA test that can detect the PRA gene that carries that disease(that IS hereditary). Testing of dogs should be discussed openly and honestly so that people can learn. TO hide it is NOT being a responsible dog breeder. People that have something to hide get defensive and secretive which is EXACTLY what you are doing. If you wanted to have YOUR breeding program looked at in a positive way then you would have answered the questions to put the accusations to rest.  Post a Response

WHAT IS YOURS? i personally like the original working mastiffs which VERY CLOSELY resemble the 150# dog on the molosser world kangal page (including the brush tail). your dogs have a very houndy appearance showing the bloodhound added late to the breed by breeding welsh gamekeepers dogs back into the breed. (the welsh gamekeepers liked F1 bloodXmastiff or these crossed to bulldogs, they were straight mankillers quite on par w/ filas.) i honestly don't see you as any different from the average pet or show breeder. being more focused on working ability in the dogs i own, i may tend to come across as rude or even hostile, even when that is not my intent.  Post a Response
