Do you plan on working your Presa? As in any breed there are good and not as good dogs. I look to see if the parents have been temperament tested; if you plan on working the dog do the parents have any titles? As with any popular dog; too many people just start breeding with no regard to temperament/health and it becomes very hard to find a dog with the qualities you want in any breed. More reason to temperament test the breeding stock!!! There are good dogs in both breeds; finding them is the difficult part!  Post a Response

Posted by Biggino on May 2, 2008, 5:50 pm, in reply to "Re: Rottweiler vs Presa Canario?" 66.51.136.23 my dog has iRema de Curto in the back of the ped, up front its from an local person I know that doesn't breed but decided to have his female bred with a certain male all dogs had their courage 3 tests ( sire n dam) my friend offered he does this as a hobby for him self and is not assosiated with any sports, neither am I as I believe they r all too scripted, geneerally I looked very hard only presa that impressed me for sport were those of red star kennels never saw them in person though.very easy comparing to. I like the fact that the good presa's are can get very civil, which is what I dog obedience and bitework for myself, dog trials, clubs or politics  Post a Response

The average presa may not have the nerve of a rott but more natural tendencies to guard and protect. Depends on what you want and how much of what you want to be natural.  Post a Response

SOME and not all have good nerve, the reason why I think they aren't good for sport is because the way the bite is not fully commited( grip not full mouth, front teeth), but maybe they are just tactical like that because these dogs i found to my surprise on average r very intelligent, and I know that biting with front teeth is supposed to be a sing of avoidance I just don't see that being the cause meanwhile the dog wraps his front legs of the decoy, I think the wits of this breed they are just getting ready to regrip if necessary  Post a Response

Most are hard for trainers because they have little prey drive. Also, my dogs have had no problems with full mouth bites; most trainers do not like catching them. If the dog is biting shallow then possibly lack of training or rushing training has caused this???  Post a Response
