You are smart to do your research; check out as many as you can preferably off their property. I don't think there is much difference as far as healthier/longer lived as far as the breeds but I do think there is a huge difference in what you feed/vaccinate the dog as far as healthy or longer lived. They are under your feet everywhere you go in the house. If you leave the room, they follow on your heels. The presas generally, are more self contained. If they follow you out of a room, it's more out of curiosity about where you're going, and they might not go all the way with you. They're fine being a little more aloof and tend to be mroe confident. Also the presa tends more towards dog aggression then the Cane generally. The one thing that would concern me when considering the Cane is the recent explosion of "breeders" in the past few years. As I understand, they're working towards AKC acceptance, and the number of breeder ads and websites have tripled since we were first introduced to the breed about 10 years ago. So in either breed you look at, ask if the hip test, if they participate in any events with their dogs, belong to any breed clubs, and detailed "what if" questions about their guarantees. I have a list of questions to ask presa breeders on my site, that can also be used for Cane's. I confess I borrowed them from another breed, and changed some things in it...but I think it can be applied to any breed you're looking for. Link: Buyer's Guide for the Presa  Post a Response

Since my original post I adopted a rescue pup that is a cross btw the two. Gotta love crapyard, oops I mean backyard breeders, sigh. I have also read that the Corsos tend to be a bit prone to separation anxiety and this little one is pretty clingy. I have been heartbroken since losing my Tosa in November so she has already brought much joy into my heart.  Post a Response

Corsos can be very dog aggressive, and territorial as well. One thing I have noticed is that the Corsos tend to be hotter and turn on sooner as pups than the Presas I have owned did.  Post a Response

She was weaned but living with her littermates and another litter. It was mayhem although I'm sure great fun for a puppy. She is delightful, super smart and so far not as laid back as my Tosa was but far easier than my Akita.  Post a Response
