It is possible to over-supplement and cause troubles. As long as the pups are growing well, gaining well, no supplementation should be needed. Now are you talking about older puppies? Again, same thing - you can over supplement. What are you looking at doing for supplementing?  Post a Response

I thought maybe a supplement might help correct it. I'm going to ask the vet too and see what I can do about it.  Post a Response

Could be a genetic issue w/ the dog. Exercise "can" help as well. We got an older female (almost 2) who was a bit down, but she'd lived pretty much her whole life on a chain. Vitamin C in the doses that are sometimes recommended can actually cause long term issues. Nausea, Diarrhea, abdominal bleeding, some forms of kidney stones, etc. The dosage will vary dog to dog due to size etc. I feel when recommending supplements, you have to give the pros and the cons.  Post a Response

Maybe the vet can give some other alternatives. I also keep him lean and give him 1 to 2 hour walks. Hopefully it will straighten out.  Post a Response

I think if after looking at sire and dam and not seeing the problem ( if you can find pics of other close relitives it can help your research ) if everyone seems normal then first look at food and then exercise. I had 2 pups non relating and nothing in the lines drop way down on iams smart puppy, a change in food and about a month and they straightend back up, I am sure it was the food because 2 older pups started getting hocked in the rear and after changing it straightend up as well, so look at food as a cause after genetics. Exercise or better yet lack of or insuficient amounts can cause alot of problems too, some will agree and others wont, but in my experience the more activity is restricted or guarded in a large or giant breed the more your setting yourself up for problems. It isnt going to hurt a pup to be able to play and be allowed to build strenght in bone muscle and tendon, with out correct muscle mass nothing is held in place correctly and JMHO but by using controled excercise it is worse then being free to excercise, you may be forcing the pup into too much activity when if allowed to play free they will stop on their own. I also beleive though that you should not let your young growing pup over do it or reach a point where they are so tired they just flop over, also jarring movements such as jumping from trucks or decks should be avoided, but a pup playing happily off leash in the yard is doing much better then one who isnt allowed to move about. Check he relitives out and then maybe think about a food change and then go from there, if not a genetic issue it will clear up when you find what is causing it  Post a Response
