I own 7 Dogo Canarios, several of whom started out life as Presa canarios, so NO I don't think there is a difference.
Now if you ask me if I see extreme breeding examples in either side that serves as fodder for the presa/dogo debate, then YES that I do see.
However, most of the dogs holding any kind of working TITLES (note- not just forever training, or putting up pictures of dogs biting sleeves, but actually achieving titles in public places) do have paperwork calling them Dogos.
The Ca de Bou was originally called the Presa Mallorquin; the Neopolitan MAstiff is also frequently referred to as just the "Mastini". Everyone refers to the Majorero Canarios in the presa history as "Bardino Majoreros" when Bardino is just a color of brindle, the only exception being Sr. Curto who is the only one to call them Perro de Ganado Majorero; The pitbull split into the APBT and the AM Staff. APBT went UKC, AMStaff went AKC. Have you been to the UKC lately and seen all the AMstaffs showing and winning there?.....so basically, a name is just a name.
