I am hoping maybe someone here will try and help me understand what this means. Two of my favorite Molosser breeds are said to be likely assimilated into the Molossus Tis Epirou. They are the Skilos Tou Pyrrou and Hellenic Mastiff to me this equals extinction. I don't see how this can be good have one breed become extinct to save another breed something is just plain wrong with this to me. From everything Ihave on the Epirou I am a huge fan of them I don't understand particularly in the case of the Pyrrou why they would want them to be assimilated into the Epirou. The Pyrrou temperament is very very different from the Epirou.
I understand the importance of gene pool is their not a way one can increase gene pool and not have another breed become extinct or nearing their?
Others breed I read have a small gene pool like the Serbian Sylvan and Sarmatian Mastiff. I know that I have read somewhere that the Sarmat is likely to be used with other breeds in the future to increase gene pool. My main concern with this would be losing the type this breed has been known for centuries. This is just my own opinon , but a major reason I think many would like to use this breed with other breeds is the Sarmat size and massive bone. Is Big always better? their seems to be a lot who feel so. All of these breeds mentioned here I find compelling. I would hate to think that someday we will be reading now extinct.
What do you think?
Thanks
