VERY good point. Even if you can't find good Dobe or Rott people out there you could visit some of the more popular AKC/UKC LGD's out there too. Pyrs, and some others make really great family guardians... LGDs in particular were bred to not only guard what they consider their flock but are also very caring towards their flock...less likely to run over a child etc... and less likely to actually attack an intruder with a bite...more likely will scare intruder to death with body language and one heck of a bark...
Once you pick a breed to go with spend some time with the dogs and breeder too. ANY protection geared breed is powerful and less user friendly than a golden...so always proceed with caution...
