Well the problem is the 'ovcharka" has been banned from grooming stores, dog boarding, has alerts for lic etc. Based on the Caucasian Ovcharka not the Central Asian.
Caucasian Ovcharka are on the 2nd list of breed bans in many countries.
Meaning Pit bull, Presa, Fila and other breeds are banned from owning.
Then they created a 2nd list with restrictions in which other breeds can be found Like Dogo , etc you find the Caucasian Ovcharka there.
The CAo or the CAS is on the 3rd list even with Leos and Newfies based on aize .
Any of these breeds has 1 bad incident and they are BANNED forever.
SO I disagree based on trying to educate for 9 years online..
Before they got into the wrong hands getting aq bad rep. You own one so you can spend you lifetime educating about your dog.
But why should I have to constantly explain that Ovcharka is just Russian for shepherd dog and that the breed you are thinking of is not my breed.
The name Ovcharka will be BANNED from ownership in the USA in our lifetimes.
And I dont want to board the sinking Titanic as a Ovcharka. I wrote this on LGD _ 10 years ago
and I did the education route to NO avail.
You can educate but it wont help .
The cow is out the gate & chasing it to come back is impossible.
So I have no issue if someone says proudly I own a Caucasian Ovcharka, but when they write i own a Ovcharka , people read it and assume it is ONE breed NOT a Russian term for 3 breeds that are NOT Russian more so for the CAS .
Central Asian dogs existed for thousands of years along the silk route.
Koochee dogs are a name for the breed type found in Afghanistan. ONLY named after the Koochee tribe still existing with this breed today.
Alabais are from TUrkmenistan.
And I could list about another 10 names for different parts of Central Asia.
And even some Gampers or Kangals look to be from the same gene pool as a CAS. As proven by DNA.
Each tribe, each country that later separated from the forced occupation of Russia took claim to their breed TYPE.
Like the nomads when they were visited by other tribes breed types INTERBRED, Mountain type may breed desert type or steepe type. And they shared blood.
That is what I do I prefer sharing blood with any type that is NOT modern Russian Ovcharka.
The Russians have changed this landrace of working dogs into their own creation.
That will put the CAo on breed bans as well based on dog to dog fighting .
So I will make sure the CAS is NOT banned based on educating others that this is NOT a Russian breed and if not Russian why bother using a Russian term?
Im glad u use Shepherd even for your CO.
But I learned along time ago to mind my business about that breed. Not my job to educate or protect other molosser breeds. I did that and I have stalkers so im glad u own a Co.
One or two normal people is nice to see in the breed.
PS I believe that the CO owners in general are more aggressive then the breed on its worse day.
i like the breed.
