went through my email contact list and clicked on people I thought might find this of interest and be close enough to the event to consider attending.
Some of you are already aware of..."The Bark Heard Around the World"...but I have accumulated additional links and info. Please pass it along to anyone you think may want to join us.
Yates County (Finger Lakes region) is starting to slide towards the deplorable state of Lancaster, PA, the Puppy Mill Capital of the U.S.
http://www.puppymillrescue.com/bark_info.htm is an article written by a woman at a 4/8/08 meeting, in which she said; The atmosphere was that of a backwoods, "Deliverance " type mentality. and resulted in one of the “kennels” in the area being granted a permit to increase the size of their operation from 60 to 260 dogs.
In an attempt to create attention and awareness of the horrors and abuses in puppy mills, Puppy Mill Rescue is holding The Bark Heard Around the World on Sat. May 17, in Penn Yan, at the Yates County Fairground on Old Rte 14A. Please click on http://www.puppymillrescue.com/bark.htm for more details.
One of the groups who will be there are The Rescue Ink guys (who I have been told are scheduled to be on Ellen, Friday, May 2). You HAVE to check these guys out!!!! on their two sites http://www.rescueink.org/ and http://www.myspace.com/rescueink ...be sure to scroll down on the myspace site :-)
Many out-of-state people will be arriving Friday, and a candlelight vigil will be held in Geneva in front of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, on Routes 5 and 20 on the waterfront in downtown Geneva, at 8:00 p.m.
For rescue people interested in participating, and calling attention to their group, I received the below info:
===============================================================
We would love to have you join us at Bark! We have approx 30 rescues joining us at this point, but hardly any large dog rescues. This will be a great time to get the word out about your rescue to others in the area and beyond. All of the information about Bark can be found on our website at www.puppymillrescue.com/bark.htm I will also attach our press release to the bottom of this email. We would love to especially have many local people join us at the candlelight vigil on Friday, as some of the rescues coming from further out will just be coming into town.
Pleas let me know if there are any specific questions that I can answer for you. The registration from for Bark can be found on the website.
Thanks!
Cheryl Rogers
