I am pro spay/nueter, it saves accidents, and heats are messy, and annoying. You ahve to be SO careful, last dog I had in heat was in a crate or on a leash, ONLY.
Some dogs have "clean" heats, and unless you are very aware, may not notice. That said.......
I wait until my dogs are 10-12 months old. I adopted a catahoula years ago, she was spayed at 8 weeks, and while she is now very healthy and 11, active, and looks and acts like a 4 year old, she is fine boned, narrow in the chest and head, when they spay that young, they tend not to develop fully, as a result of decreased hormones.
