There are pros and cons to any age.
First, if you adopted the dog, you may be contracted to do it within a specific time - that would basically negate anything else.
Second, larger dogs, it may not be a bad idea to wait until after the first heat cycle PROVIDED you can ensure that there is absolutely NO WAY a male dog can get at her to breed her and you are willing to deal with three weeks of potential heck.
There have been worries brought up and some vets are noticing it too, that spaying too young may have physical and behavioral ramifications. But waiting through a first heat can also have issues such as risk of "pyo", slight increase of mammary tumors later on in life (though how many breeders never see this in any of their broods who are spayed later in life) and of course, unwanted pregnancy in a dog too young physically and behaviorally to handle it.
So weight the pros and cons. But with a larger dog, it may not be a bad idea to wait until closer to a year to spay her if you can handle a heat cycle.
