Just a heads up - This is pathetic... Since it is a legal issue, I thought I would alert people here so it can be passed on. This is from CraigsList in VA. I have gotten a few versions targeting dog trainers! I knew they were hitting breeders as I occassionally get one through my family Sheltie site. Now they are targeting Pet Finder and other sites that allow people who need to rehome pets to post ads.

Please cross post this to various groups or sites that allow people to post animals for adoption. Petfinder classifieds postings are being hit by them. I am trying to rehome an unexpected litter from an animal I adopted who no one realized was pregnant and have gotten over a dozen of these within hours of Petfinder putting up the classified. Yes, I posted the ad as the shelter said I could try and find homes for the babies and they will take back any I cannot. I am not posting on CL to find homes but did on Pet Finder Classifieds. I am just trying to alert people to this type of "Nigerian Scam." For more on them, please go here:

Below are three of the emails I received. All the rest are similar to these, with a couple details and the names changed.
Many people fall for these scams annually. If you fall for one, you will not only still have the animal you are trying to place but potentially face legal issues depending on how the scam is run. Some are asking that they send me a large check (I am not asking ANY adoption fee for the animals as the shelter does not for this species), I keep X amount and send them Y amount when I ship the animal. How this works is the check is bogus and by the time that is discovered that the account is fraudulent, the money is in hand and the victim may be in trouble for passing a bad check.
Please do not fall for these scams if you are placing an animal through any site.
I have contacted PF to let them know and sent a copy of one email scam. I know many people use CL to place animals and want to alert you all here as well.
