Our home was made by Southern Energy Homes in Alabama. Really our problem involves both dealer and manufacturer. The work throughout the house as you will see in the pictures is just plain....crappy. You see every staple gun hole that hangs the trim, wall board and window and door facings. The carpeting stands up in some places 1" because according to the specialist the manufacturer sent, has faulty backing and is pulling away from the floor. Our kitchen bar is not at all what I ordered. It is bearly supported and I have to warn everyone that comes in to be careful and not place to much weight (I'm talking even elbows)on the bar for fear of it ripping right out of the wall. The settling and foundation problem, however according to what we are told my the manufacturer, the dealers problem. Our home is place on a basement. The Southern Energy Home's Engineer sent our basement contrator the specs of what would need to be done as far as the basement and the self supporting beams. This is the problem. The house was set directly on the beams instead of being placed on the sides of the basement (foundation)therefore, the entire weight or our home is on the beams. Our basement walls are supporting the beams fine, but the beams were not supposed to have the entire weight of the house bearing on them. Therefore causing the sagging in the middle of our home as shown by the marriage line inside and the roof outside. I would prefer to send pictures directly to you and not place them on the website, so just send me an address.
: Hi Bethany,
:
: Thanks for the feedback. What was
: the brand of the home you bought?
: Do you feel it is more of a problem
: with the home (construction) or the
: dealer/installer who put it in place
: and did the "finish" work?
: Is it the
: home or the foundation? What type of
: foundation? Am I asking too many
: questions? Yes, I'd be interested
: in seeing the pictures.

: Kent, please do your homework. It
: sounds like you have already had
: some input on how terrible the
: process can be and honestly it can
: be as bad as you have heard or
: worse. Our home has been on the
: foundation a little over a year and
: a half and we know that the way it
: is already settling that this is
: definately not the home that we are
: going to retire in. When we
: purchased our home we never dreamed
: in a year we would have to contact a
: lawyer to get our home livable, not
: to mention the expense the lawyer is
: going to be. We could have
: definately had a stick built home
: built for less than we paid for our
: manufactured home and the expenses
: that we have already incurred and
: are still yet to acquire. We have
: friends that started building a
: house in January 04 (we ordered ours
: in Sept 03)they moved in 6 weeks
: before we got to and they have a
: much better quality home than we do.
: So just give this decision lots of
: thought and should you want to see
: any pictures of our "QUALITY
: HOME" just let me know I would
: be happy to send you some, just so
: you can see why we are so unhappy.

: : Hello,
:
: I found the link to this site
: (Manufactured Housing Information
: Board)
: at Wes Johnson's site:
:
:
:
:
:
: Based on the information I've seen
: here
: and at Wes's site I'm definitely
: going
: to get a copy of his book before
: proceedig down the manufactured home
: buyer's path any further.
:
: I am considering a manufactured home
: because (as Wes points out also)
: they
: offer and very attractive price
: point.
: However, based on what I've read
: here
: and other places I am having serious
: doubts as to the viability of these
: homes. To make matters more
: difficult
: there are no less than three key
: players
: in the process each of which seem to
: have
: a history of probelms:
:
: 1) Manufacture
: 2) Dealer
: 3) Setup and Installer
:
: It seems that any or all of these
: player
: can ruin your home buying
: experience.
:
: My question is basically this. Based
: on
: the horror stories I've seen here
: and
: elsewhere is there any real point in
: considering a manufactured home?
:
: Also, are the rates of
: dissatisfaction of
: manufactured home owners
: significantly
: higer than "traditional"
: home owners?
: They also have their fair share of
: problems.
:
: I really like the cost savings of a
: manufactured home but I don't even
: want
: to get involved if it's something
: that
: I'll regret the rest of my life.
: (I'm
: going to put down a sizeable amount
: of
: cash for the down payment).
:
: I look forward to your help and
: comments.
:
: Sincerely,
: Kent
