Kent, please do your homework. It sounds like you have already had some input on how terrible the process can be and honestly it can be as bad as you have heard or worse. Our home has been on the foundation a little over a year and a half and we know that the way it is already settling that this is definately not the home that we are going to retire in. When we purchased our home we never dreamed in a year we would have to contact a lawyer to get our home livable, not to mention the expense the lawyer is going to be. We could have definately had a stick built home built for less than we paid for our manufactured home and the expenses that we have already incurred and are still yet to acquire. We have friends that started building a house in January 04 (we ordered ours in Sept 03)they moved in 6 weeks before we got to and they have a much better quality home than we do. So just give this decision lots of thought and should you want to see any pictures of our "QUALITY HOME" just let me know I would be happy to send you some, just so you can see why we are so unhappy. : : Hello,
:
: I found the link to this site
: (Manufactured Housing Information
: Board)
: at Wes Johnson's site:
:
:
:
: Based on the information I've seen
: here
: and at Wes's site I'm definitely
: going
: to get a copy of his book before
: proceedig down the manufactured home
: buyer's path any further.
:
: I am considering a manufactured home
: because (as Wes points out also)
: they
: offer and very attractive price
: point.
: However, based on what I've read
: here
: and other places I am having serious
: doubts as to the viability of these
: homes. To make matters more
: difficult
: there are no less than three key
: players
: in the process each of which seem to
: have
: a history of probelms:
:
: 1) Manufacture
: 2) Dealer
: 3) Setup and Installer
:
: It seems that any or all of these
: player
: can ruin your home buying
: experience.
:
: My question is basically this. Based
: on
: the horror stories I've seen here
: and
: elsewhere is there any real point in
: considering a manufactured home?
:
: Also, are the rates of
: dissatisfaction of
: manufactured home owners
: significantly
: higer than "traditional"
: home owners?
: They also have their fair share of
: problems.
:
: I really like the cost savings of a
: manufactured home but I don't even
: want
: to get involved if it's something
: that
: I'll regret the rest of my life.
: (I'm
: going to put down a sizeable amount
: of
: cash for the down payment).
:
: I look forward to your help and
: comments.
:
: Sincerely,
: Kent
