C&O NW2 5284 in train 311 ready to depart for Traverse City. Sunday, March 30, 1980.
Now the story. When I went to DCC in 2000, I was told the Kato NW2 was a nightmare conversion. I assessed the situation and agreed. 5284 has sat in the box in the drawer ever since......
Enter my son, who in the mean time grew up, and starting in February worked on tackling this project. He milled out the weight, installed a TCS 2 decoder, tinkered with the fit, the lights, and in July, voila - 5284 is in revenue service. Thank you RJ!!!!
In the mean time, we were able to install decoders in 2 more Athearn old runs units (C&O 5205 and 5210), added to 5207 which I put in service in 2003. All my C&O switchers but one are now in DCC service. Just need to complete a GTW and Conrail switcher units and I believe my DCC Conversion will be totally complete after about 15 years.
