At the Gratiot Valley show in the fall, somehow the idea to make the three units right was planted. I was able to get decals made a month or two ago and finally put the finishing touches on the units this weekend.
To the best of my knowledge, the Saginaw Valley Railway had three total units, two of which wore the SVSU red (998 and 999) and one of which had the SVSU Cardinals logo (999). The third unit (301), was acquired still in Norfolk Southern black, and was repainted directly into the Rail America red, white (silver) and blue paint still worn today by the unit, after its transfer to the New England Central and renumbering to 3869 (which coincidentally, was produced by Atlas several years ago in N scale). Although 301 never wore the red paint, I chose to paint it red anyway, for a 3 unit set.
The N scale Saginaw Valley Railway:
These three units will join the CORP 3838 and the CORP 3826 I painted over the summer, as well as the "updated" 301, the NECR 3869, on my layout. Despite the sale of Rail America to Genessee & Wyoming, and the coming changes to the Huron & Eastern's roster, I hope to model at least one or two of the original four HESR GP38-2s in the near future as well.
