A 8/1977 photo of 390 shows the Compass logo to have been removed: 390 Bob Teusink, the guy who ran the original Michigan Shortlines message board (now defunct), had a page on trainweb with a couple photos of the GP35s around the time of the TSBy transition: Charles W.
I'm no Ann Arbor expert, but I did do a little digging on the internet and found a couple things that might help you.
Starting with your second question, I've seen photos of various former AA GP35s after the TSBy started up, with the Ann Arbor lettering patched out on the long hoods, before each was repainted to WV yellow and blue. I believe the last units lost their orange in the early 1990s, although I can't recall exactly where I saw the information.
Getting back to your first question, I did some digging on the Fallen Flags site (http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/aa), and found a couple photos of the GP35s.
I hope someone else here will be able to provide a more accurate date as to the removal of the Compass Logo.
