In the wee hours of a monday morning in early December 1978, the north end of Muskegon Yard is quiet. On the right are four empties for Brunswick on the BBC Track. Left of that is the Muskegon Secondary main track, a bad ordered covered hopper on yard track 1, and cars and caboose for monday's WMMU1 on track 2.
The first action of the day is JAMU pulling through the yard. In a few minutes the power will back the consist into the yard.
Load of coil steel spotted at Steel Fabricators. Part of the Brunswick complex is in the background. (note the economical cardboard buildings) This is the first carload of coil steel delivered to Steel Fabricators on my layout, although they've received a few cars of sheet steel before. The busiest customers on my layout get served most days (Brunswick, Shaw-Walker), while the majority of customers are served more rarely, some only receive a car every two weeks or so. Lans Storage just got their first carload recently, after a good 6 months of inactivity since I built that portion of the layout! I use a shuffled card system for calling up waybills, so an infrequent shipper might go quite a while before having a waybill pop up.
