We're in our new place now, and I've been putting time into getting the layout up and running asap. Its going to be greatly expanded from the old setup, and incorporates the old boards and frame. After being out of commission for just under four weeks, I took some pics this past sunday of the first day of actually running the layout.
An overview:
Straight ahead is the 11th St Dock on Muskegon Lake, with the main line passing to the right. The main line in Muskegon towards Grands Rapids will run along the rest of the back and left walls, and I'll be making a small addition for the Shaw-Walker factory in the bottom left.
From the same position but turned towards the right:
The jumble of buildings in the bottom right is Brunswick, with the main line and 2-track Muskegon Yard going into the distance. There's a wye where the track gets near the back wall. The single track running along the left side of the main line/yard is the Grand Trunk TS&M.
The Muskegon Heights Extension/belt line will run along the wall on the right, and there will be a small addition to make some more room for Brunswick and another customer back there.
First train! KMMU2, in the wee hours of 11/3/78. It happened to be a little 4 car train, but I didn't let that dampen my spirits!
Pulling clear of the north end of Muskegon Yd to back the train in.
View from the yard.
After shoving in, the main line switch is lined back. I'll be making accurate buildings for Brunswick at some point, but for now this mix-n-match will do.
Power passes Clay St on the way to tie up at the dock.
Stopped to throw a switch on the main.
Entering the dock tracks. The track running left to right and crossing over the dock tracks is the C&O South Horn track.
Tied up at the office!
