Smelt - When do they run??

Hi folks, Just moved to Kenora a while back and while discussing smelt fishing a bunch of us decided that perhaps a trip to Thunder Bay would be a hoot. Only problem is that nobody here knows when the smelt run occurs!! Can somebody tell me the ballpark date for the smelt run please? Also, I will be in Thunder Bay in March on business. Can somebody tell me a name of a decent store to get a dip net? There is not much call for them in Kenora. Thanks in advance, Glen
