I did a census check on you father and grandfather..
I found Alvin in Kansas at the age of 8 yrs old with his family...
Cedar Grove, Wilson County, Kansas 1880
Father: John T. Maupin 46
Mother: Elizabeth 36
Brother: Jack A 22
Sister: Laura J 18
Sister: Florence 10
Your father: Alvin 8
Brother: Melvin (Possibly)6
Brother: Calvin 4
Brother: Allen (possibly)9 months
I found your grandfather John T Maupin with his family at age 5 (1850) in Taylor County, Kentucky.
Father: Samuel (possibly)29
Mother: Elizabeth 31
Sister: Mary F. 8
Brother: Robert M. 7
Grandfather: John T 5
Sister: Possibly Sonjia 3 (very hard to read)
Brother: William J 1
Look at this census there are many Maupins living in this area...
I hope this gives you a good start..
