My opinion is that if you are catching gar you are in the wrong area. They hang out in warmer water than stripers like to. If you are marking fish in 0 - 20 feet of water this time of year they are probably gar. Big stripers may get this shallow at night but not for very long. To me gar give off a very dense signature on the graph. Lots of thick yellow streaks. I guess they are really boney and have larger air bladders? Stripers tend to give off less of a signature. More meat which would absorb more of the radar? More like a stripe across the graph. Of course the bigger the fish the bigger and more dense the mark will be also. Depth also plays a roll in the density of the mark on the graph.
