Paul Scott Years ago, when I was a 40z drinkin/ NWA pumpin/ Rebel Without a Cause, one of the So, in the midst of an extremely deep conversation of Black social and economic empowerment, I took it upon myself to blurt out how cool it was that OE was cheaper than Pepsi in tha hood. The room fell deathly, silent as one of the brothers looked me dead in the eye and asked, why do you think that is, my Brother ? I just stood there with an empty can in my hand looking like Phill tha Fool
. The secret relationship between Blacks and the liquor industry is kinda like that dude Jason from the horror fick. Just when you tink that they killed him once and for a, he come back for another sequel. Once upon a time, in a hood not to far away you could not turn on your favorite video show without seeing some rapper rappin about St. Ides Malt Liquor ot the Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull bustin; through your 19 inch set. But after years of protests by community activists who had peeped tha game and were tired of seeing their communities destroyed, slowly the 40oz invasion came to a halt. However, over the last year just like Jason we see the return of liquid crack coming to a hood near you. From D-12s ode to the 40oz to the popular In tha Club Getting Tipsy by the underage Jayquan once again getting drunk for no reason at all is coming back in vogue. Most disturbing, however, is the release of something called Sizzurp Purple Punch by Camron and Jim Jones It was about 20 some years ago when another Jim Jones Since this is an election year, which is usually the most most radical time in American history, where plots are planned and agendas are laid out one must question the timing of the reintroduction of liquor into the Hip hop game. 2 Pac once said that suppressing the revolution was a premeditated scheme if this is indeed true with must look at getting high from a historical perspective. It is recorded in some history books that the reason for the downfall of Nat Turners Rebellion against slavery was that some of his boyz went out and got a little tipsy. Also, it has been a long held theory that drugs such as heroin were introduced into the Black community to destroy the Black Power Movement. And we all know the damage that crack, both liquid and otherwise has done to our community. So at a time when it is of utmost important for the minds of Black folks to be clear the introduction of mind altering substances into our community should come as no great surprise. To borrow from the brothers with the bean pies, what better way to control Black people than keeping us deaf, dumb and blind/drunk, high and out of our minds. So consider this an open email to Bothers Camron and Jim Jones with a simple request Please dont do this to us, not now, not ever. With all the entrepreneurial endeavors in with you can engage, please do not contribute to the genocide of our people. There is a great possibility that this message my never reach Camron and Jim Jones and that it will either wind up in a trash can or be deleted from an email. A brother once asked me, why do you guys keep wasting you time trying to rech those who dont want to be taught and reach those who dont want to be reached. Just because, man, Just because

Getting Tipsy in tha Hour of Chaos
boyz and I were headed to one of his friends house when we stopped by a hood convenience store/liquor house to gwt a cold drink. B got a Pepsi for about a buck and I, being a couple of dimes short had to settle for a tall can of Ole Gold (Ole English Malt Liquor.) I thought we were headed to a house party with a girlz and much more beer. You can imagine my shock when I bust into a room full of non pork eatin/Franz Fanon readin/ conscious Brothas yelling the philosophies and opinions of Ice Cube with a can of malt liquor in my hand. But having an OE buzz, I was determined to convert these Lost brothas to the religion of thuggism.
Had people commiting suicide by a purple kool aid laced with cyanide. I rember as a child people asking themselves didnt those people know better
Who would purposely drink something that was going to kill him?? I guess the more things change the more things stay the same.
For those who are not down with the Dirty South, the original sizzurp is a concoction of cough syrup and liquor. So now a drink that takes it name from that brew is headedd to your local hood this summer. I say tha hood, because I doubt very seriously that Biffy and Sally in New Hampshire are going to be getting tipsy off tha sizzurp in tha back of a 98 family van.
The real tragedy of this is that we as a community are slow to correct the behavior of some of our people and instead make apologize for our own genocide. We are in bad shape in the Black community when we have to look to what Right wing Conservatives like Bill O Reilly and Sean Hannity for moral guidance and to be the voice of reason.
