Black Church: The Same Ole Song
at the club when they sang their hit, the same ole
song. Unfortunately, in 2003 many black churches
could just as easily use that song for their opening
hymn.
about the state of the Black Church and its relevancy,
any conversation that does not begin with a call to
eradicate the false Eurocentric images and
interpretations and to embrace an Afrikan Liberation
Theology is like putting new wine into old bottles.
Reformation Movement, within the Black church. Several
steps must be taken to make the Black Church relevant
to Afrikan people.
Eurocentric religious icons and replace them with
Afrocentric images. Even the little ushers at the door

Jesus is a lie. Please be seated
In the Black
Church you should not be able to tell the fourth
Sunday in February from any other Sunday. The Bible is
Black history and every Sunday morning service must
reflect this TRUTH.
Black History as if it is somehow foreign to the Black
Experience. The experiences of the Original Black
Hebrew Israelites must never be disconnected from the
struggle of Afrikan people in America. Unfortunately,
many Black folks believe that religion was a gift
from the white man and African people had no
spirituality prior to European contact. In reality,
all religions have their root in Africa and the person
who attends a Black church is no less Afrocentric than
the next person. The controversy over Christianity
being the white mans religion has nothing to do
with the manner in which a person chooses to praise
the Lord but the way in which white supremacy has so
intertwined itself with the religion that it has been
virtually impossible to separate the two. So the goal
of Black church folks must be to separate their belief
system from the falsehoods of the European and embrace
the TRUE African origin of the Bible.
revolutionary. No longer must pastors preach of a blue
eyed, blond haired, white Jesus Christ whose only
purpose is to give Afrikan people amnesia so that we
will forget our 400 years of European oppression and
accept our current condition. No longer must the
pastor preach that the ultimate purpose of religion is
to make Black folks love white folks while hating
themselves and denying their history. The TRUTH must
be told that the person who the European misnamed
Jesus Christ was a Black revolutionary named Yeshua,
who fought against the religious leaders of the day
and the (white) Roman Empire with the sword of TRUTH.
Black folks need to stop trying to be like Jesus and
be like Yeshua and take on the messianic task of
feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and speaking
TRUTH to power. The Black church must not concentrate
solely on dying and going to heaven but doing the will
of the Creator, while they are here on Earth.
diligently study the Bible from an Afrocentric point
of view and apply those teachings to the LIBERATION of
Afrikan people. Although, the scriptures that speak of
studying to show thyself approved and People
destroyed for lack of knowledge are often read in
church, these scriptures are rarely applied to the
pursuit of any TRUTH that is in opposition to the
slave theology that the European has forced down the
throats of Afrikan people. Although, Black churches
across the country have prayer meeting and Bible study
every Wednesday night, rain sleet or snow, how many
Black folks are praying for FREEDOM and studying the
African TRUTH of the Bible at these gatherings?
Pastors must encourage their congregations to turn off
their soap operas and music videos and pick up a book
by an Afrocentric author on the Black presence in the
Bible.
night prayer meeting or Sunday morning, evening or

a new Afrocentric perspective of the Bible, the world
and themselves.
ministers or Ivy League professors but the change will
come from the masses of black folks who want FREEDOM
for themselves and their children. Those who have the
COURAGE to proclaim to the world that although we have
been victimized, we are not victims. We have a
glorious past and in the fullness of time, we will
rise again!
