Wow the New Mexico Meet was amazing.
This turned out to be the largest meet in New Mexico in the 20+ years I have been around. We had 62 lifters from NM, TX, CO, AZ and Florida. We started just a few minutes after 9am and finished a little before 6pm. It was a long day but we had a packed house and the crowd was cheering and clapping all day long. Sharla Fowler kept the crowd and lifters fully engaged at this meet. Sharla is a top notch announcer
First we would like to thank all the people that helped and made this meet a success: Lisa and Carlos Siddell, Elaine and Bill Waugh, Bill Helmich, Jani Wood, Harry Heyman, Sharla and Mike Fowler, Brian Ammerman, Richard Kahle, both our daughters ( Aysah and Natasha and Helen ‘Nammy” Tessler. We had a lot of help breaking the meet down and returning the gym to normal. We want to sincerely thank everyone that helped out as we couldn’t have done it without you.
We were honored to have 95 year old Symie Sermay lift with us. This lady was just unbelievable. She weighed in at 119lbs. She curled 33lbs, benched 44lbs and deadlifted 71lbs. From now on anytime anyone says I am to old to powerlift we will remind them about Symie Sermay and the incredible thing she accomplished over the weekend.
We awarded the 2007 New Mexico Athlete of the Year award to David Torrez. David consistently brings a large group of lifters to the meets, load, judges, helps out wherever needed and is an incredible lifter. The award was well deserved.
We had a lot of American records broken and twice the amount of state records broken. Everyone seemed to have a great time as the meet ran smoothly and efficiently because of all the great loaders and judges.
Teale wanted to thank everyone again for purchasing raffle tickets that help fund her way to Prague. Teale lifted at the meet with a 48 hour notice that she was doing so. I told her on Thursday that she was lifting. So with no training for the meet at all she got a 259 bench and took a good shot at 271. I am very proud of her!
Teale and I both want to again thank all the lifters and support personnel for making this a record breaking meet!!!
The results will be on there way to Rich for posting later today.
We look forward to seeing everyone at Regionals on September 6th
Teale and Mike
