superior suit straps

I have a size 50 superior suit which fits well around my hips and legs. I'm only 5'8" so the straps are VERY loose around my shoulders. Can I have it altered and still be IPF legal? How about adding velcro to the straps? I don't think I'd be able to get into a smaller size. Any advice...please help. I'm still working with it to get down to parallel.
