Those Democrats with whom you confuse us tried to destroy our party a few years ago because we think and speak independently from them. They did not succeed. Please don't confuse us with the Democrats and Republicans who have taken the word "liberal", bastardized it and use it for their own gain. We real Liberals have a rather basic ideology and that is to remain socially open, if a dollar is to be spent then spend it wisely, and keep the Democrats honest and the Republicans Liberal. We've worked with both Democrats and Republicans who can work with us in the center and yes, we lean sightly to the left and right depending on the issue. We are not necessarily opposed to a corporation because it's a corporation but we see how things can be done better. Oil is a perfect example. Take a look at the oil crisis of 1974. At that point in time this great country of ours was dealt a blow by those oil producing countries. They almost had a stranglehold on corporate America because corporate America was so dependent on them and unfortunately still is. With people in gas lines across the USA, the common sense thought was (and one to which we still subscribe)that corporate America should be developing and investing in alternative sources of energy. Profits could be made, the environment could be protected and no one would have to kill a polar bear. Detroit's response was that it would be too expensive to re-tool the car manufacturing plants to get better gas mileage and the oil companies pretty much said the same about spending bucks to research alternative sources of energy. Fast forward to 2005 and take a look. Detroit re-tooled because it was losing out to fuel efficient foreign car manufacturers. The oil companies are only now beginning to take alternative energy sources seriously. By the way, what kind of car are you driving? How's your gas mileage? Also consider this. Had our country not become dependent on foreigh oil and kept our "we can do anything" spirit, maybe just maybe our role in the Middle East would be different. Maybe Isreal would be secure, there would be a Palestine, Lebanon would not be occupied by Syria, the USA would be the self-sufficient country that our forefathers had hoped for and our country would be using a better balanced strategy than we are. The following is not a put-down to you by any means but the reality is that people in your age group have been blinded by the "slash and burn" politics that both Democrats and Republicans are using these days and at whose expense? Yours and mine. Both the Democrats and Republicans do their best to make Americans believe there are only two schools of thought, either Republican or Democrat. Not true. Your generation is an intelligent one. Keep the eyes open. You'll see. Check us out Kyle and you'll see that we are a party of common sense people that are not left wing extremists. We are not controlled by a radical wing as the Republicans are and we are not like the Democrats who are in disarray. We real Liberals are not opposed to capitalism, we are not opposed to the free entreprenurial spirit, but we do believe, for example, that no one should be without healthcare and that no one should have to go broke if one becomes ill. Our country's greatest asset is its people. We real Liberals are people who believe that our country can still do it all if it's run with the average American's future kept in the forefront.
