The Republicans or I should say the conservative wing of their party has stated their goal. That stated goal will not work. There is a way as I stated in an earlier post to look at changing Social Security without eliminating it. The Democrats have yet to say anything plausible and they wonder why they are not successful. Rather than we Liberals take polar sides on this issue as the conservative wing of the Republican Party has done, and rather than wait for the Democrats to be the ususal polar opposite, we must look at how Social Security can be updated to serve 21st Century America and be the ones to offer the average person another option to study. We must remember that the voting public in this country is divided into thirds, one-third Republican, one-third Democrat and one-third Independent. We Liberals are classified as "Independents". It's time for the third voice to speak on this issue.

Surplus? What surplus? To base one's retirement nest egg on the ups and downs of the stock market is ludicrous.
