And yet this is the same group who sold us on deficit-crippling tax cuts (best way to kill the liberal beast is to starve it) and may have the votes to make these cuts permanent. They fully believe that if you lie loud enough to a poorly educated, uncertain public, they will buy it. Remember "we want to put the surplus back in your pocket???" And everybody said O.K.

Nice summary, Ellen. The fact is that many alternatives to strengthening Social Security exist. They are being ignored by the Bush-Rove administration, because their intention is to destroy this lynchpin of America's liberal policies and than destroy what's left of the programs that made the 20th century, America's Century.
