Posted by Misanthropic Scott So, liberal? No. Liberal by comparison? Yes. Is that all we can hope for at present? Unfortunately. As I stated in another post, the real problem is that we somehow allowed liberal to become a dirty word in politics. I've been trying to spread this meme: The opposite of liberal is stingy. For anyone that doubts this, refer them to their favorite dictionary, if they're literate.

I will not disagree with anything in this post. I will merely point out that the shift to the right in this country has been so extreme that even The New York Times is being called "a liberal rag". While I find that personally quite nauseating, I can't help but say that we still have only so many choices when voting and, historically, have always had to settle for the least bad candidate. Hillary at least fits that bill.
The opposite of conservative is progressive.
