Posted by Maeven Bill Clinton was the greatest President that the Conservative Republicans could ever have wished for from the Democratic party in the 1990s. Bill Clinton sold out liberal values and enabled what the Republicans were able to accomplish once they took over the legislative and executive branches after 2000. From "welfare reform" to the Federal Communications Act of 1996, Bill Clinton sold out the democracy from under the feet of the American people. Hillary is to the right of Bill, and without the charm, personality or camera presence. Their goal, as founders of the DLC, is to purge the liberal base from the Democratic party and replace us (liberals) with the moderate (pro-choice, pro-corporate) Republicans who have had the Republican party co-opted by the religious right. The race is on to bring moderate Republicans, such as those Republicans within the Bush administration who aided (and by their silence and acquiescence enabled their fascist policies) like Christine Todd Whitman and Colin Powell into the Democratic party. The leaders of the Democratic party (the DLC) run from the word "liberal" and "liberal policies," which has made it possible for Conservatives to successfully demonize the word "liberal" in the minds of Americans. And yet when polled on the issues, most Americans agree with liberals' opinions on the issues and liberals' policies. In our nation of 300 million people, 200 million of us are eligible to vote, but only 100 million of us do. Various polls and studies inform us that those other 100 million don't participate in the process because (primarily), they see it as "slick" and "plastic," dishonest and not reflective of their politics. We need to move beyond the notion that there is a fixed pool of voters (100 million), find candidates who are bright, articulate, and can increase the numbers of real (liberal) Democrats to the Democratic party from outside the current 100 million who vote. Liberals must get over our love affair with the Clintons (and other "progressive" Democrats, like Barack Obama, and most of the other current "rock stars" of the party). They're not our friends, they're only too happy to cave in and compromise with Republicans in Congress (in the name of "bipartisanship") and they're certainly not the salvation of the American people.
