Posted by Greg K. on December 14, 2005, 1:48 pm The MTA wants workers to contribute 3% towards their pension instead of 2%. How outrageous...oh, THE HUMANITY!!! Most employees in the private sector contribute a significant amount towards their 401(k). Sometimes the employer kicks in a little, sometimes not. Also, most workers in the private sector have to contribute a portion toward their healthcare. Combine this with the fact that the average transit worker earns more than the average private-sector employee in NYC, I wonder what exactly is their beef?? GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone sympathize with the plight of transit workers? I can understand they want a raise -- after all, I want a raise too! And not a pathetic raise -- a decent one. However, the difference is that I can't walk out on the job and bring the city to its knees if I don't get what I want. It is all based on merit and my performance as communicated through the annual review process. Sometimes, the lesson in life is that you don't always get what you want.
