Harried The mayor's stadium proposal was nothing more than a greedy attempt to yet again put the interests of the monied classes over those of the average working person, while couching these attempt in language such as "jobs" and "union worker opportunities." The Mayor and his crones are not stupid people: they knew that diction such as this plays well in a city like New York. But when one blew the dust off and examined the nature of the UWS stadium bid, the true motives of those pushing the proposal shone clear. While I do not have any sort of personal affinity for Sheldon Silver or politicians of his ilk, I do respect him for voting his conscience, and of course for defeating the mayor, the deputy mayor, and the city's half-baked Olympic bid. New Yorkers do not need the Olympics; rather, we need affordable places to live, a reasonably clean environment, safe streets, clean drinking water, and well-run schools with progressive curricula for our children. Rather than focusing on Sheldon Silver, Liberals should perhaps be spending their time working on how to better connect with the average working person and thus getting a more progressive political agenda in place. Step one for folks with our views should be getting rid of our billionaire mayor. Step two should be in working towad defeating the lying, rapacious Bush administration.

Let's face it: The notion of placing a stadium on the UWS is ridiculous when we weigh it against the need for affordable housing in this city. A recent report highlighted the struggle that NYC workers are having finding affordable housing in the city--a job requirement for many of them. Also, apartment hunters can attest to the ridiculously overpriced and shrinking housing market here in the city.
