This may not apply to your Hamiltons, but I got a shock in tracing my Robertsons, via my DNA test.
It seems that I match the Hamiltons 3:1 over Robertsons!
No guarantee, but you might try researching Robertson, and the variants of this name.
Also you might look at the Clan Donnachaid (sp?)site.
