aerating and overseeding

Summer heat was pretty hard on my one year old green! I want to overseed. It is also time(alittle late)to aerate. This will be my first time for both! Can I aerate then overseed and topdress?
Any info or good links would help! Also I would like to find a good hand powered aerator. I dont think I need a big gas operated aerator but the small two hole foot operated jobs from the local home and garden stores just plug up!
