I have an older Jacobsen 22 mower that is " hunting " at all throttle and choke settings except just shy of full choke. The machine starts easily every time, and seems to run fine at the almost full choke setting (the choke adjustment is a lever on the carb) My feeling is that the carb needs to removed and cleaned. Because the machine is probably circa 1970-1980 (model 63311 I think) I am very leery of taking the carb off and finding that I need a rebuild kit to complete the cleaning. I live near Boston,Ma. and there are two shops in the area that service these machines; Sawtell Bros in Topsfield,Ma & Allens Seed Store in Exeter,RI. Taking the mower to either place would be a time consuming and potentially expensive adventure. I'm not afraid to make the attempt to clean it, but I would hate to shoot myself in the foot, considering I am mowing at least every other day. Getting parts for this carb may be difficult to obtain. Is it possible to adequatly clean it without removing it, or am I just being paranoid?
Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks.
