I've been using a small shovel to dig my holes and it looks just fine. it's not as easy as with a hole cutter, but less expensive. you should definately get the right putting green cups and flagsticks. t he depth is 4 inches instead of the regulation cup on golf courses which is 6 inches. i get my supplies at http://www.wittekgolf.com/index.asp they seem pretty decent.
