My green is in very elite in standards. I give it, 2-3 deep watering a week (depending on the natural rain), mow it every two days, spoon feed etc.
However, in summer, the heat (in Australia) can reach up to 48 degress. For nearly all year round, i syringe the green daily, around 2pm. This cools the grass down, as the water evaporates. It doesnt put much water into the ground.
This basically stop wilt.

: Todd,
:
: I have mostly followed the rule of
: thumb to water deeply and
: infrequently. Although this depends
: on the type of soil you have. My
: green is natural soil, with a fair
: amount of sand incorporated into the
: rootzone over the last couple years,
: so I find myself watering it a bit
: more than I used to do.
:
: I usually do not wait for signs of
: stress, if I can help it. Someone
: on this site several months ago
: posted new theories on watering. He
: attended a turf seminar with
: reknowned agronomists and one Dr.
: said to water nearly every day. So
: there are some vast differences of
: opinions on this issue of watering.
:
: Although my bottom line on this
: issue is to water a couple times per
: week fairly deeply, unless it rains
: during the week. Also don't be
: afraid to hand water drier areas of
: your green, to keep things from
: drying out too much.

: I am wondering about overwatering my
: green. Is it best to allow the grass
: to show signs of stress this time of
: year and only water when absolutely
: necessary? I read that starving the
: green for water will lengthen roots
: as well..
