Another question for everyone here: Has anyone experienced a "split heat" with their female dogs?
I only ask because Maybull seemed to be coming into heat about 2-3 weeks early: we noticed her swollen back end, an increase in urinating, and a very light, VERY slight discharge from her about a week after we noticed the swelling, but after that initial spotting there was little to no discharge noticed. My spayed female dog began to mount her like crazy. She is now up in MA with Janna to be bred to Mac, however I am concerned that she may not be in full heat yet and Mac is not really interested in her at this time.
For her past 3 heat cycles, they have been about 5 months apart, and she usually swells then has a good amount of discharge for about 2 weeks. She also urinates frequently which is why I was not as concerned about a possible UTI this time around.. I asked my vet and she is not concerned about pyometra as Maybull is still acting fine/eating normal/etc. but I am worried she may be in a "split heat" where she exhibits some symptoms of going into heat then regresses to normal, and a few weeks later is in FULL heat and is ready to breed.
Any ideas or similar experiences? I am still new to breeding and of course Maybull seemed "normal" the last 3 heat cycles, but when we are finally ready to breed her, this has to happen just my luck..!

Give her time, can't rush it. Some females swell and slightley discharge pink or brownish drops for a week or two. 2 of my females are like that. When she is ready Mac will know!Life is to good to be bothered by ignorant people.
